Opoli launches today with more than 100 licensed, commercially insured professional drivers in Los Angeles County.
The Opoli app is available for iPhones and a web widget makes it possible to be used by all smartphones, desktop and tablets.
More Control for Drivers and Riders
For riders, Opoli provides real advantages when it comes to pricing. First, drivers bid for your ride and you will see their bid in real time and can choose which one you prefer. There’s no surprise or surge pricing, and riders will know the final fare before accepting the transaction. Riders can also make reservations, view driver ratings and choose their driver and vehicle, something other transportation apps do not allow.
Using Opoli allows drivers to set their own pricing and work when and where they choose, including having the ability to work for other channels since Opoli’s free market platform does not lock a drivers’ phone like other apps.
“Opoli levels the playing field, enabling service providers of any size to compete against larger competitors,” Joea said. “And it takes out the commissions by the middleman, leaving service providers and consumers to find each other easily and negotiate the transaction among themselves with payment going directly to the provider via the app.
By not taking a commission, unlike other apps, Opoli is attracting better drivers because it’s a better deal for the drivers.
Opoli works like this – The customer turns to her Opoli app on her smartphone, which automatically maps her location for pickup. The customer inputs her drop-off point and how much she wants to pay for the ride. Opoli sends her offer to participating drivers in the area. Drivers respond in real time with an acceptance or a counter offer that goes right back to the consumer. At a glance and in a matter of moments, the customer can compare prices, reviews, travel time, photos and make a selection that works for her. Payment goes straight to the driver and the customer can track her ride as it approaches.
“Think of it as the Yellow Pages meets Priceline meets PayPal and Yelp, with real reviews from real users”, Joea said.
